Little Helpers are small, DIY sound making devices scattered throughout the city, each one unique and home made. They have the appearance of a product of a miniaturised Scrapheap Challenge by teams of very small virtuosi musicians with a love for Meccano and lo-fi electronics. The Little Helpers are responsive mechanical oscillators that draw attention to the resonant properties of matter. They act as vibrational prostheses, extending and enhancing the material force in sound and its impact upon an environment. They occupy architectural spaces, drawing out the audible qualities of architectures that may ordinarily go unheard

Biography

Will Schrimshaw's work focuses on issues of environmental interaction and sonorous individuation. These concerns are often realized through technological means in installation and performance settings. His current installation work seeks to test the role of sound as a catalyst of movement and a material for the construction of intensive spaces.
