Ariel Pink LIVE / Marnie Stern LIVE / Times New Viking LIVE / Crystal Antlers LIVE / Now Wave DJs / Stop Making Sense DJs + More TBC

A cross-section of the US lo-fi indie scene in an irresistible night of fringe and outsider pop 'n' rock experimentation never seen or heard before in Manchester. Another highlight of the festival comes in the form of LA's skewed freakfolk / folkpop genius Ariel Pink, supported by the flamboyant finger tapping prowess of female guitar hero Marnie Stern, the ecstatically raw and lo-fi Times New Viking, and the psychedelic garage rock of Long Beach-based Crystal Antlers. This lineup positions four of the USA's most reckless and imaginative indie exports corralled in a mini-festival setting at Urbis. DJ support will be provided by the knowledgeable teams behind Manchester's Now Wave and Stop Making Sense club nights.

Ariel Pink

Ariel Pink is the cult figure and genius behind the series of Haunted Graffiti releases for the Animal Collective curated Paw Tracks label. From relative seclusion in the hills of sun drenched LA he's perfected the art of home recording, committing over 500 gloriously psyched pop songs to tape in an endearingly naive fashion. Considered a member of the local freakfolk scene alongside Devendra Banhart, Ariel Pink (real name Ariel Rosenburg) most famously creates all his drum sounds with either his mouth or armpit, which only adds to the mystique and eccentricity of his FM lite influenced sound.

Marnie Stern

The flamboyantly technical finger tapping and hard rocking style of Marnie Stern has accumulated a landslide of critical praise and attention since her 2007 debut ‘In Advance of the Broken Arm'. Named as one of Venus magazine's ‘Greatest Female Guitarists Of All Time' her second album "This Is It and I Am It and You Are It and So Is That and He Is It and She Is It and It Is It and That Is That" was released in 2008 accompanied by drummer extraordinaire Zach Hill, and reached No. 44 on ‘The 50 Best Albums of 2008' from Pitchfork Media.

Times New Viking

Times New Viking are an infectiously melodic and relentlessly noisy indie trio from Columbus, Ohio. Formerly signed to Siltbreeze Records and currently residing on the Matador label, their live shows are an explosion of addictive hooks and articulate Sonic Youth style distortion.

Crystal Antlers

Blending psyche rock with 70's prog and a garage-jam intensity, Long Beach, CA's Crystal Antlers are a deceptively complex group. Their self-titled 2008 debut was produced by Ikie Owens (known for his work with The Mars Volta), and the group has quickly developed a reputation for searingly eccentric live shows comparable to Comets On Fire or Les Savy Fav.
