8.00pm till 12.30pm
Another Futuresonic foray into the most devastating and creative territory in leftfield hip-hop. Featuring an extremely rare UK live performance from the seminal NYC based hip-hop crew Anti-Pop Consortium with support from local beatfreaks DJ Woody, Fingathing's Peter Parker aka Parkertron plus a selection of active local DJ's. The headliners can count Radiohead, DJ Shadow and Public Enemy among their supporters, finding kindred spirits for their renegade brand of avant-electro productions and stream-of-consciousness lyrics. A supporting cast of beat makers, freakers and players draws together the Manchester region's finest to traverse a broad section of hip-hop, dubstep and reggae.
The avant hip-hop class is in session with NYC based Anti-Pop Consortium coming to teach Manchester a lesson it won't forget. Anti-Pop Consortium are the antithesis of over commercialized hip-hop which lost contact with its experimental and forward thinking roots at about the same time of the groups inception in 1997. Formed after a meeting at the ‘Rap Meets Poetry' slam in New York, the group took the weight of conceptual lyricism inherited from NYC pioneers like Kool Keith or MF Doom and fused it with obtuse and future shocking beats in a brain sparking fission that quickly attracted the attention of Warp Records. Since then the group have come to signify and uphold powerful values, which have placed them as standard bearers for the world of leftfield hip-hop.
DJ Woody owns the insanely talented pair of hands that propelled him to become the first ever European DJ to win an ITF world Championship in 2001. The inventor of the ‘Woodpecker' scratch, and the revolutionary double tone arm technique, Woody is a restlessly creative individual who has brought fame and respect to the North West HipHop scene and his Krispy Crew, the UK's longest running hip-hop group. Expect a mindblowing display of lightning-quick cuts and rubs from a true innovator.
