Inspired by the assemblages of Joseph Cornell, the vitrines of Marcel Duchamp, Pollock's Toy Theatres and Victorian shadow boxes, plan b launch their analogue, literal cut-and-paste alternative to MySpace.
An empty shop window is dressed as if it was the page of a new internet site offering the ability to create your own space. This space is no virtual space however but a section of the window itself.
plan b are the API of the project, trying to fulfil the users requests for the contents of their space. Armed with an array of real objects, paper, cardboard, glue, they work on behalf of remote users or with live users who come into the disused shop to realise their desires of self expression within a roughly A5 by 5cm deep space. The window is gridded with a structure ready to house each new box.
Project participants can also send messages to one another with a kind of analogue messaging service as an inbox will sit next to each box.

We will use the information on this form to make a
real space to represent you. This will be an A5 box
with images, text and three-dimensional objects
installed in it. It will be displayed to the public
between 1-5 May in Manchester as part of the Futuresonic festival and will also function as an
Inbox for people to leave you messages.
Once you have made a box, you can leave messages for
other people who's box you like the look of. At the
end of the project, you can collect your box to
keep.
The questions are just a starting point to help
create your Space, you don't have to answer all the
questions and you don't have to be truthful, but
remember that people will be responding to the
information that you provide.
