FreeSpaceManchester

For the past year the Manchester Ponto de Cultura group
has been meeting, driven forward by the energy of Vicky
Sinclair and others, and by the philosophy and vision that
has emerged out of Brazil.
A year on from the meeting at the last Futuresonic
festival, the group will meet again, this time with some
concrete plans to establish a permanent free and open
source space at ZION, driven by the many ideas and
inspiration of the people who have been attending the
meetings and contributing their thoughts and time.
Presented in association with Futuresonic and Zion.
Sunday 4 May
12pm – 3pm
Zion Arts Centre
Stretford Road, Hulme
Free
The meeting will be an informal, round table format, but with some people invited to give presentations on projects, plus a fashion show with a difference.
SIMON YUILL
www.futuresonic.com/08/art/fsf/
Simon will give the only talk during Futuresonic on his
new commissioned project FSF - 'the free social
foundations project'. Simon is working in collaboration
with the people of Manchester to produce a map grading how
'free' and 'open' spaces in the city are, based on costs
and restrictions to use. The spaces range from public
parks and street corners, to shopping centres, cafes,
clubs and community halls. The map will be made available
online and in a free printed format that will be
distributed across Manchester, as well as displayed in the
gallery.

Brazilian Ministry of Culture. Felipe will give a
presentation on issues such as collaborative production
and independent media.
FREEWEAR
www.futuresonic.com/08/art/freewear/
A fashion show with a difference. Freewear is a project by
Geraldine Juarez from Eyebeam in New York dedicated to
create clothes out of free materials provided using
Freecycle. On Saturday 3 May, 11am - 3pm, in Contact Space
3 there will be a workshop making new fashion items, you
can sign up in advance via ZION to participate fully, or
just turn up. Then during FreeSpaceManchester there will
be a fashion show of the cloths that have been made, when
you can hear the stories of the cloths that were used and
the people who donated them.
MICK FUZZ
Introducing the People's Voice Media, a new grass roots
media project based in Greater Manchester.
Plus opportunities for open discussion and a chance to
contribute to the formation of the permanent FreeSpaceManchester space.
