Futurevisions features eight exceptional audiovisual pieces selected from an Open Call for submissions by an international judging panel. The pieces were selected to present a cross section of some of the ways artists are combining or working across sound and visual media.
Bret Battey - Autarkeia Aggregatum (USA, 2005, 10 mins)
"In this work Battey's sound and images generate and influence one another, creating a magma constantly transforming in terms of light and colour, an evocative and tactile kaleidoscope, saturated and evanescent, at times about to liquefy, at others to explode like air." — Invideo 2006, Milan

Takafumi Tsuchiya - Urum (Japan, 2006, 6 mins)
Beautiful landscapes are reconstructured in this video, simultaneously generating new scenery with deja vu - a sense of incompatibility.
Endre Tveitan - Building; Waterfall (Norway, 2005-2006, 3 mins)
Collaborating with sound artist Lars Lervik, these two short works are 'living' collages, combining sound with images composed into one ever-changing video picture. 'Building' is a video composed of black and white images of buildings, layered to create one continuously shifting building. Construction and deconstruction of surfaces. 'Waterfall' is a video collage showing an ever changing landscape. One man sitting in the waterfall, one sitting by the side. Water falling. Smoke rising.

Dawn Scarfe - Etchings (UK, 2007, 6 mins)
'Etchings' investigates the sonic character of a building by using a stick to play the air, 'sounding' the space as if it were an instrument. The footage is slowed down to emphasise the impressions made in the air, and highlight how we interact with our surroundings through movement and sound.

Christina McPhee - Rhodes Racer (USA, 2007, 5 mins)
Shot in summer 2006 at the Bonneville Salt Flats, Utah. Recursions through 'flying' mathematical figurations, montaged to fleeting shots of strange vehicles on the flats, a startled young pronghorn antelope, people conducting DIY pyrotechnics, and shots of gushing groundwater. The film is a meditation on subliminal datafields below the salt. Sound by Steve Nalepa.

Mario Verandi - Klang-Film (Argentina, 2005, 12 mins)
Klang-Film explores the sensory counterpoint of sounds and images and their interaction, ambiguity and friction. How does music shape the perception of images?. How do images shape the perception of music?. "Images and sounds, like strangers who make acquaintance on a journey and afterwards cannot separate". (Robert Bresson)

Area 3 - Amazing Red (Spain, 2006, 5 mins)
Amazing Red recreates a solitary and reflexive voyage through the outskirts of a city.

Joseph Hyde - SubliminalTV (2007, 12 mins)
This is how it will be when the system crashes and the channels shut down - untraceable pirate broadcasts pieced together from the remains, salvaged scraps of ancient media seen as precious relics, endlessly repeated in new and ever more unlikely permutations.
